Dr. Mallory Mao was licensed by the Kentucky Board of Psychology as a health service provider in 1998.  She received her doctorate in counseling psychology at the University of Louisville in 1997.  She moved from China in 1990 to attend Morehead State University and received her master’s degree in general psychology in 1991.

 Dr. Mao’s primary professional career was established as a regional psychologist (program administrator) for the Department of Juvenile Justice from 1997 to 2018.  As a regional psychologist and a mental health branch manager, she worked extensively with other professionals to ensure that juveniles in the Department were properly assessed and treated for their mental health needs.  Her leadership role included oversight of mental health services to treatment programs, policies and procedures development, leading mental health staff training, conducting court-ordered evaluations, and providing therapeutic treatment to juveniles. 

 Dr. Mao began transitioning into general psychological services in private practice setting in 2015, working primarily with children.  Since her retirement from the Department of Juvenile Justice, she continued to practice focusing on providing psychotherapy and psychological evaluations to children and adults.  She worked mostly with elementary school age children.  Her treatment practice areas included depression, anxiety, disruptive mood dysregulation disorder, attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder, oppositional defiant disorder, conduct disorder, autism spectrum disorder, and learning disabilities. 

 Dr. Mallory Mao grew up in China.  She is bilingual in Chinese and English.  She enjoys sharing her life experiences.
